Back to the 60s to mark library’s 50th birthday

A library is turning back the clock to the swinging 60s to mark its golden jubilee.

Willingdon Library, in Coppice Avenue, Lower Willingdon is 50 years old this year and the library is holding a 1960s themed event to celebrate.

Opening in June 1963, the library replaced the one situated in an old wooden hut that was originally part of the Polegate Airship Station, and has since been serving the local community with many services including books, Internet access, and a home library service.

On Wednesday 12 June, 2013 at 2.30pm – exactly 50 years to the day that the library opened – there will be a birthday party with music, displays, activities and refreshments.

The afternoon will also see the planting of herbs by local children and adults in the library’s new sensory planter, bought in for the library garden to mark this landmark birthday.

This is a free event and all are welcome. More information is available by calling 0345 6080196 or emailing library.willingdon@eastsussex.gov.uk
