CQC survey about children and young people’s services shows improvement

young child playing with green, blue, red and yellow blocksThe Care Quality Commission (CQC) has published the results of the Children and Young People’s Patient Experience Survey (2018) which shows East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust (ESHT) has significantly improved across a number of important areas. The survey showed ESHT is better than most trusts in five areas and showed significant improvement in 12 areas, from the corresponding survey from 2016.

ESHT was in the top 20 percent Trusts for:

  • Staff playing with children at all while they were in hospital
  • Staff involving parents in decisions about their child’s care and treatment
  • Having access to hot drinks facilities in the hospital
  • The facilities for parents or carers staying overnight
  • Parents feeling able to ask staff questions

The survey highlights 12 areas where the Trust has seen “significantly improvement”. Amongst these were: confidence in the staff, parents and carers being involved in decision making and receiving an explanation about the treatment, cleanliness, children with having things to do and the overall experience. No areas had got worse compared with the previous survey.

It is a real privilege and hugely rewarding to care for children and young people. This survey recognises the hard work of our teams is valued by our parents and carers and their children. We will use this feedback to develop and enhance the service further as we work towards becoming a provider of outstanding care.”
