ESCV launches mental health hub to advise professionals working with young people

At the end of June 2022, East Sussex Community Voice (ESCV) launched a new guidance hub to collate one year’s worth of findings from youth engagement activities gathered through our Youth Inspect & Advise Group, a youth voice forum focused on mental health and wellbeing.

The group of 14 young people with a passion for change and experience of using East Sussex mental health (including school-based) services, have released some co-designed materials, toolkits and guidance reports aimed at helping practitioners (like teachers, youth workers and therapists) better support the needs of young people.

The youth voice and wellbeing hub, with website text written by young people, includes advice for professionals on issues spanning bullying, a whole-school approach, school transition, the design of services and the role of social media.

ESCV are an independent Community Interest Company (CIC) who deliver innovative youth voice and engagement initiatives that champion young people’s voices and work in partnership to create better outcomes for young people. We also deliver the Healthwatch and Young Healthwatch functions in East Sussex.

Money advice service is helping people take back control of their finances and their health

Money can’t buy happiness, but when money becomes a worry, it can have a serious effect on health and wellbeing.

Even if you’re in generally good health, concerns about finances can cause sleepless nights, take their toll on relationships and lead to anxiety. For those in the community who are more vulnerable, money worries can lead to a vicious cycle of deteriorating health and difficulty managing daily tasks like household bills.

An East Sussex Better Together service is helping local people from some of the most deprived areas of East Sussex to take back some control of their finances and improve their health and wellbeing. Now in its fifth year, the ESBT Benefits and Debt Advice Project (BDAP) enables people to access their correct benefit entitlements and offers free, expert advice on managing debt to those with long-term physical or mental health conditions. Supporting local people’s mental health

The services aim to tackle mental ill-health and improve community resilience by detecting and engaging mental health issues early and enabling people to develop recovery goals, self-manage and adapt healthier behaviours.
