People in East Sussex are being asked for their views on a strategy to manage the effects of local flooding. The consultation on the draft Local Flood Risk Management Strategy launches today.
Although the Environment Agency maintains its responsibility for the management of river and coastal flooding, the County Council is now the Lead Local Flood Authority for East Sussex under the Flood and Water Management Act (2010).
The draft strategy sets out how the County Council plans to manage the effects of local flooding across the county. People are being asked for their views to make sure that the strategy is locally relevant and understandable.
Councillor Carl Maynard, Lead Cabinet Member for Transport and Environment said: “We have a new role to tackle the risk of localised flooding, and this draft strategy marks a significant step forward in defining what this means for our communities.
“Your views are important to us. We want to know if the timescales set out in the delivery plan are realistic and achievable and if you agree with our approach and the objectives we are aiming to achieve.
“We are interested in the views of everyone – those who have and haven’t experienced flooding. The answers and comments you provide will be used to inform the final version of the Local Flood Risk Management Strategy which we aim to formally adopt during the summer of 2013.”
Copies of the consultation documents are also being held for reference at East Sussex libraries and district and borough council offices.
The consultation period lasts for 12 weeks. The closing date for comments is 12 March 2013.
Respondents can provide their comments online using the online questionnaire, or via email or post using the contact details below.
