Literature tent comes to Brighton Pride

Literature lovers will be catered for as Brighton gears up for this year’s Pride celebrations.

For the first time, a literature tent, presented by libraries in East Sussex and Brighton, will be on offer during the festival.

The literature event, which will be in Preston Park on Saturday 3 August 2013 from 2pm to 6pm, will celebrate the best of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender writing talent and also offers opportunities for new and aspiring writers to take part.

Authors appearing include Neil Bartlett, Manda Scott, V.G. Lee, Jonathan Kemp, Clayton Littlewood, Roz Kaveney, Maria Jastrzebska, John McCullough and Evlynn Sharp.

The event, which is funded by Arts Council England, also includes an open mic session from 4.30pm, enabling budding writers and performance poets to showcase their talent.

Meanwhile, a series of free workshops will be held in the week leading up to Pride, enabling people to create or finalise work to be performed.

These will be held as follows:

Wednesday 24 July 2013 – Lewes Library, Friars Walk (1.30 to 3.30pm)
Wednesday 24 July 2013 – Allsorts Youth Project, Ship Street, Brighton (6.30 to 9.30pm, age 16 to 25 only)
Thursday 25 July 2013 – Marlborough Theatre, Princes Street, Brighton (7 to 9pm)
