Flood warning website launched with help from Wallace and Gromit creators
A new online platform that helps people prepare for flooding has been launched with an animation from the creators of Wallace and Gromit.
Developed by the Blue Heart project led by East Sussex County Council, Befloodwarned.uk brings together warnings, local information, and real practical steps we can all take to reduce the impacts of flooding, all in one easy-to-access place.
Missy and Stanley’s Tale, directed by Åsa Lucander at multi-award-winning studio Aardman, launched the online platform which streamlines alerts from the Environment Agency and Met Office and includes specific detailed information for people living in the Eastbourne and southern Wealden areas.
By ensuring clear access to this information in an easy-to-use way, Befloodwarned.uk will help people be more resilient to flooding.
Cllr Peter Griffiths, East Sussex County Council’s Lead Member for Transport and Environment, said: “The online platform will help raise awareness ahead of flood events enabling residents to sign up for warnings, make informed decisions, and take practical action to improve their resilience before flooding happens.
“We are delighted to have developed Missy and Stanley’s Tale, which is a great way to promote Befloodwarned.uk and help people understand the potential impact of flooding on their lives.”
Befloodwarned.uk and Missy and Stanley's Tale were funded by Defra as part of the £200 million Flood and Coastal Innovation Programmes which is managed by the Environment Agency.
Tegan Illingworth, Project Manager, Blue Heart, said: “Information about flooding is often spread across different organisations and websites, making it difficult for residents to know where to start. Befloodwarned.uk brings together the information people need in one place.
“Through Missy and Stanley's Tale and the wider awareness campaign, we're encouraging people to get warned, get prepared, and take action before flooding happens."
Missy and Stanley’s Tale is now available to watch on https://befloodwarned.uk/missy-and-stanley
