Pedestrian improvements planned for Bexhill
Work to improve pedestrian safety in Sea Road is due to start this month.
East Sussex Highways will be carrying out a programme of improvement work on Sea Road, Endwell Road and Jameson Road from Monday, June 22 to Thursday, July 23.
The scheme will involve the relocation and widening of the existing zebra crossing, alongside carriageway resurfacing, footway reconstruction and minor drainage improvements.
The relocated zebra crossing is designed to make it safer and easier for people to cross, particularly children, older residents and people with disabilities, by creating a more visible and accessible crossing point.
A spokesperson for East Sussex Highways said: “This scheme will make a real difference to pedestrian safety in the area by improving visibility at the crossing and creating a safer, more accessible environment for people using Sea Road.
“We know this work will cause some disruption, and we would like to thank residents, businesses and road users for their patience while these important improvements are carried out.”
Work will generally take place between 6am and 7pm under temporary traffic lights, with some overnight road closures required for resurfacing and high‑friction surfacing.
Overnight work is due to take place between Friday, July 17 and Thursday, July 23 from 7pm and 6am, with no noisy activity after 11pm.
Residents and businesses in the area will receive a letter with further details before work begins. Updates will also be shared on the East Sussex Highways website and social media channels.
Ends.
