Good Food Month returns to East Sussex this October

THE vital role food plays in our health, communities, economy and environment will be celebrated when Good Food Month returns to East Sussex.

Good Food East Sussex, headed up by Local Food Partnerships and East Sussex County Council, will showcase the county’s passionate producers, rich agricultural heritage and thriving food culture with a series of events throughout October.

For businesses, communities, growers, volunteers and organisations, Good Food Month will give them the opportunity to highlight the benefits of locally-sourced food, share ideas and inspire action.

Cllr Mark Estcourt, lead member for adult social care and health at East Sussex County Council, said: “Good food is about more than taste – it’s about community, care and connection. By committing to sustainable food practices all year round, residents and businesses will be helping the local economy and environment.

“Last year’s Good Food Month in East Sussex was a great success and I’m sure we will be able to build on it this year offering a range of opportunities to residents and businesses alike.”

The month kicks off with the Food for Thought Conference at Plumpton College on Thursday, October 1, followed by the Good Food East Sussex Buyers and Suppliers Event on Thursday, October 8, connecting local producers with buyers to strengthen our local food system.

Other events include A Taste of Rwanda at Lewes Community Kitchen on Sunday, October 18, a free cookery workshop for Hastings and St Leonards residents, and farmer’s markets held across the county.
