People in the Langney area of Eastbourne are set to receive a temporary library service from Saturday 23 February 2013.
East Sussex County Council is to set up the temporary library in St Barnabas Church opposite the Langney shopping centre.
The Library in Langney shopping centre had to close due to the collapse of the shopping centre roof before Christmas. The Council’s Library Service has been waiting for news on the future of the centre and has recently been told that it will reopen following repair works.
Councillor Tony Freebody, lead member for community services at the County Council, said: “St Barnabas Church have kindly offered us a small space in the front of the church in order to provide access to some stock for people who are unable to travel to any other East Sussex Library.
“Our staff are working hard to set up the temporary library and will aim to provide a selection of the most popular stock for adults and a small selection of books for children. We are extremely grateful to the Church and other members of the Langney community who have pulled together to enable us to set up this temporary facility.”
The temporary Library will operate from 9.30am to 1pm Tuesday to Saturday. In addition the Mobile Office will be available in the shopping centre car park every Wednesday from 9.30am to 1pm. The mobile office provides access to five laptop computers with free Internet, free email facilities and a tutor providing basic IT courses.
St Barnabas Church have also started up a Community Café running from 10.30-12.30 every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, offering the community of Langney a place to meet and socialise while the shopping centre is closed.
