STREET light changes in an area of Hastings will be under the spotlight at the latest in a series of public exhibitions.

The event in the town’s St Helens ward will give people in the area the opportunity to find out more about the switch from old-style orange and yellow lights to modern, energy-efficient white LED lanterns.

It will be held at Christchurch Blacklands Church Hall, in Laton Road, on Saturday, July 12 2014 from 9am to noon.

People will have the chance to put their questions and comments to members of East Sussex County Council’s street lighting team, while maps showing the changes in St Helens will be on display.

The council is replacing around 5,500 old orange and yellow street lights in Hastings and St Leonards as part of a drive to reduce its energy budget for the whole of East Sussex by £885,000 over the next three years and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by around 2,800 tonnes.

The council has already saved around £340,000 a year and reduced its CO2 consumption by 2,000 tonnes from switching to LED lights in Eastbourne and introducing part night lighting in other parts of the county.
