A SUPERMARKET will host the next in a series of public exhibitions highlighting changes to street lighting in Hastings and St Leonards.

East Sussex County Council is inviting people in the Hollington area to find out more about the switch from old-style orange street lights to modern, energy-efficient white LED lanterns.

The event will be held at the Tesco Extra superstore, in Church Wood Drive, on Saturday, October 4 2014, from 9am to noon.

People attending will be able to put their questions and comments to members of the county council’s street lighting team, while maps showing the changes in Hollington will be on display.

The council is replacing around 5,500 old orange and yellow street lights in Hastings and St Leonards as part of a drive to reduce its energy budget for the whole of East Sussex by £885,000 over the next three years and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by around 2,800 tonnes.

The council has already saved around £340,000 a year and reduced its CO2 consumption by 2,000 tonnes from switching to LED lights in Eastbourne and introducing part night lighting in other parts of the county.
