THE rainbow flag is flying above County Hall in Lewes to mark this year’s Pride celebrations.

The flag is raised every year to support for events in Eastbourne, Hastings and Brighton which, between them, attract hundreds of thousands of visitors.

As part of the celebration of equality and diversity, representatives from East Sussex County Council, Sussex Police, East Sussex Fire and Rescue and South East Coast Ambulance Service gathered to give their backing to the events.

The flag raising coincided with Eastbourne Pride 2019 which was held on Saturday, July 20. In its third year, the event featured a parade from Eastbourne pier to Princes Park and a concert featuring Pink and Take That tribute acts.

County council Chairman, Cllr David Elkin, said: “Pride events attract visitors from around the world, and we’re delighted to be able to give our backing to the events and to the LGBTQ community.”

“The events across the county and the city are a celebration of equality and diversity of our communities, and a great way for us to demonstrate our support.”

This year’s Brighton and Hove Pride runs from Friday, August 2 to Sunday, August 4, while Hastings Pride week runs from Saturday, August 17 to Saturday, August 24, 2019.
