WORK on a major town centre redevelopment has been rephased to help traders make the most of the summer season.
Fencing has been removed from the Victoria Place section of Terminus Road in Eastbourne and the construction phasing has been adjusted to improve access to businesses in the town.
An East Sussex Highways spokesperson said: “We appreciate how important the busy summer season is for traders in Eastbourne and we are pleased to have been able to work with Eastbourne Borough Council and local businesses to rephase the work.”
Footpaths directly outside shops will be reinstated and work to install paving and electrical equipment for streetlights and the new pedestrian crossing will continue in areas that do not affect access including Burlington Road and sections of Seaside Road.
Work on the main section of Victoria Place will not resume until Monday, September 8.
The spokesperson added: “Once complete, this phase of the major town centre improvement scheme will enhance accessibility and give priority to those walking, using wheelchairs and other mobility aids. It will also improve connections between the town centre and the seafront.”
The rephasing of the work means the project is now expected to be completed by the end of the year. More information and updates will be posted at Eastbourne Town Centre – Phase 2 | live.eastsussexhighways.com
