AN EAST Sussex County Council children’s home has been rated ‘outstanding’ across all areas by Ofsted.
Brodrick House received the rating following a recent inspection that praised the “highly effective services” and “exceptional care” provided by the home.
Inspectors commended the actions of the children’s home, saying they “contributed to improved outcomes and positive experiences for children and young people who need help, protection and care.”
The report, published on Tuesday, November 18, also praised the home’s manager and staff, saying the care they provide results in “…significant improvement in the lives of all the children.”
Inspectors noted that the home has a strong and effective management team which ensures the children living there have the opportunity to make progress in all areas of their lives.
The report recognised that ‘children have exceptional experiences’ and are encouraged to “…take part in a range of activities that help them develop their individual interests and talents.’
In addition, inspectors found that the staff ‘…go to great lengths to ensure that children have a positive learning experience.’
The staff’s commitment to hearing the children’s voice was also highlighted in the report, with inspectors noting children at the home are encouraged to express their views and wishes, and staff are responsive to their suggestions.
One recent request for a ‘Topsy Turvy’ day, where the children were the adults and vice versa, helped staff better understand the children in their care.
Councillor Bob Bowdler, lead member for children and families at East Sussex County Council, said: “Receiving this outstanding Ofsted rating reflects our continuing commitment to improving the lives of children across East Sussex.
“I am extremely proud of the staff at this home and delighted that inspectors have praised their hard work and dedication, recognising it is making a real difference to the lives of the children they care for.
“Whilst we are delighted the exceptional care provided at this home has been recognised by Ofsted, we know that there is more to do to ensure every child in care can reach their full potential.
“We will continue to work with families and partner professionals to give all children the best opportunity to thrive and succeed.”
Ofsted rated the home ‘outstanding’ in the following areas:
- Overall experiences and progress of children and young people
- How well children and young people are helped and protected
- The effectiveness of leaders and managers
