The nine week modernisation scheme has seen the library in Market Square completely redecorated and fitted with new carpets, lighting, furniture and shelving, as well as self-service facilities, a new display area and space for community events. New desks provide laptop and USB plug-in spots.
The children’s section of the library has also been completely revamped and has new seating and low-level book boxes and shelving, where children can browse books, use the computers and spend time reading, relaxing or learning.
To celebrate the re-opening, East Sussex County Council is inviting people to drop in on Saturday 8 July at any time between 10:30 and 13:00 to enjoy coffee and biscuits and see what’s on offer.
Councillor Bill Bentley, Cabinet Member for Communities, said: “The refurbishment has allowed us to create a modern, welcoming library for residents to enjoy.”
“It provides a light, airy and flexible space for customers to study, relax, browse books or access online services on their laptop, tablet or mobile device.”
“To celebrate reopening, we would love residents to join us on Saturday 8 July and see for themselves how we have improved the library, especially those who haven’t visited us recently.”
