LIBRARY users are being advised Heathfield Library will close for three weeks next month for refurbishment work.

The scheme will see improvements made to the children’s area, offering a more inviting space for young readers and families, including a dedicated public computer for young people.

Meanwhile, the building will be made more energy efficient by replacing the old heating system and radiators and installing new windows and LED lighting.

The library, in High Street, will be redecorated and a new carpet laid, while new charging points will be installed where customers can charge their own devices.

Cllr Bill Bentley, East Sussex County Council lead member for communities and safety, said: “This work will create a modern, vibrant space which people of all ages can enjoy.

“While some of the work can be done while the library is open, we do need to close the library for a short period while we carry out the noisiest work.

“We’re sorry for any inconvenience and would ask library users to bear with us while we complete this scheme, which will provide a much more open, welcoming layout.”

The improvement work began on Monday, October 14 2019, with the library closing on Monday, November 11 2019 and reopening on Monday, December 2, 2019.

During the closure people can use the eLibrary or visit nearby libraries in Uckfield, Hailsham, or Crowborough. Loan periods for all items will be extended until after the closure period.
