East Sussex reshapes services as national social care crisis sharpens funding pressures

PLANS to remodel front-line services to deal with a national crisis in social care and other intense financial pressures will be presented to council leaders next week.

The proposals are part of a package of measures East Sussex County Council’s Cabinet will be asked to approve to help the authority achieve agreed savings of £17 million in 2018/19. Continue reading

100 years on – fight for equality continues

Today (Thursday, March 8 2018) is International Women’s Day, which this year coincides with the centenary of the Representation of the People Act passing into law.

While it granted the vote only to property-owning women over 30, the Act was a major milestone on the road to universal suffrage for women and the product of the extraordinary efforts of ordinary people over many years. Continue reading

LEADERS of all district and borough councils in East Sussex have thrown their weight behind a campaign calling for fairer funding for the county.

The Stand Up For East Sussex campaign is urging people to sign a petition calling on the Prime Minister to urgently rethink the funding the county receives. Continue reading
