THE latest of a series of public exhibitions will highlight changes to street lighting in an area of St Leonards.

The event in Wishing Tree ward will offer people the chance to find out more about the switch from old-style orange and yellow lights to modern, energy-efficient white LED lanterns.

It will be held at the Asda superstore, in Battle Road, on Saturday, September 6 2014 from 9.30am to 12.30pm.

People will have the chance to put their questions and comments to members of East Sussex County Council’s street lighting team, while maps showing the changes in Wishing Tree will be on display.

The council is replacing around 5,500 old orange and yellow street lights in Hastings and St Leonards as part of a drive to reduce its energy budget for the whole of East Sussex by £885,000 over the next three years and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by around 2,800 tonnes.

The council has already saved around £340,000 a year and reduced its CO2 consumption by 2,000 tonnes from switching to LED lights in Eastbourne and introducing part night lighting in other parts of the county.
