YOUNG people looking for the perfect career can find out what East Sussex County Council has to offer as the authority launches its latest search for apprentices.

Following the success of a work readiness programme earlier this year, the county council is making up to 25 spaces available on another event for young people aged 16 and over.

The one week event runs from Monday, July 4, when participants will be prepared for life at work and given advice to help them decide if an apprenticeship is the best route to take.

“This is a great opportunity for anyone looking into apprenticeships and on-the-job training with a large organisation,” said Cllr David Elkin, the county council’s deputy leader and lead member for resources.  “Our previous work readiness weeks proved a great success and helped 30 young people get a foot on the career ladder.

“There are many routes into a career, and we appreciate that an apprenticeship may not be right for everyone. The work readiness programme is the perfect way to find out whether it is right for you.”

As well as getting advice about apprenticeships, those taking part will be given the opportunity to undertake work experience in a number of council departments to find out what it is like to work for a local authority.

The latest event is part of East Sussex County Council’s continuing commitment to providing regular apprenticeship opportunities.

“We are determined to ensure there are ample opportunities in the county for our young people to embark on a career, and support the economic growth of East Sussex,” Cllr Elkin added.  “As one of the area’s biggest employers, we can offer a range of opportunities to help young people get a good start in their working life.”

As part of the authority’s commitment, East Sussex residents aged between 16 and 24 will have the opportunity to train in a wide variety of roles, including business admin, customer service, ICT, finance, adult social care and others. There will also be opportunities available in county schools.
Details of further work readiness programmes will be announced later this year.
