ACTIVITIES inspired by Disney·Pixar’s latest animated blockbuster will keep children across East Sussex moving during the summer holidays.
2016 marks the third year that Change4Life and Disney have come together to inspire children to move more, with fun 10 minute bursts of activity – Shake Ups – inspired by some of Disney’s most recognisable and popular characters.
This summer Disney, Change4Life and the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) are encouraging children to ‘Just Keep Moving’ as they kick off a summer of activity inspired by the new Disney·Pixar film Finding Dory including family swimming sessions.
The Finding Dory inspired family swim sessions provide an interactive hour of storytelling fun and activity for the whole family based on ASA foundation swim skills. These sessions will be offered at three centres in Eastbourne and Newhaven this summer as part of the nationwide campaign.
The Change4Life 10 Minute Shake Up with Disney campaign, is designed to help children reach the recommended 60 minutes of activity they need each day.
“Physical activity can have far reaching benefits for children,” said Cynthia Lyons, acting director for public health at East Sussex County Council. “As well as keeping them fit and healthy, it can improve their confidence, social skills, self-esteem and behaviour.”
“A third of 10 to 11 year olds and a fifth of four to five year olds in the UK are overweight or obese, while just 21 per cent of boys and 16 per cent of girls meet the recommended level of activity of 60 minutes a day. Campaigns like this are a great way of getting children to keep active during the long summer break.”
East Sussex families will be able to take part in weekly Finding Dory swim sessions, run by Eastbourne Leisure Trust and Wave Leisure, at three locations;
• Motcombe Pool, Eastbourne – Every Wednesday from 11am to 12.30pm until August 31
• Sovereign Centre Pool – Every Tuesday and Thursday from 11.30am to 12.30pm until August 25
• Seahaven Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre – Various days and times until to August 29
