Rates of cases of Covid-19 in the Eastbourne area

Joint update from Eastbourne Borough Council, East Sussex County Council and Public Health England

The virus has not gone away and we’re seeing the fluctuation of relatively small numbers of cases in many parts of the country.

This includes Eastbourne, where the weekly infection rate has fluctuated between 10 cases and 24 cases per 100,000 people since the beginning of June – the overall trend has not increased. At no point in this period have there been more than six new cases a day in Eastbourne.

A number of the recent positive tests in Eastbourne have been in hospital or other care settings where they are carefully managed.

We must be alert though as the infection is still circulating in the community. Everyone has a part to play in controlling it in their community by:

  • keeping two metres apart from others where possible
  • regularly washing their hands
  • immediately self-isolating and arranging a test if they have symptoms of the virus (a new persistent cough, a change in smell or taste, or a fever). Arrange a test at  http://www.nhs.uk/coronavirus

We are working closely together to do all we can to control the situation across all our communities.
