INTERACTIVE music sessions, day trips and lunch clubs are among a series of events to celebrate the role older people play in improving communities and the lives of local people.
Following the easing of Covid-19 restrictions, the 14th annual Older People’s Day programme – which coincides with the UN International Day of Older Persons on October 1, will provide a mix of free and paid for in person activities and virtual events open to the 50 plus age group.
Running throughout September and October, this year’s programme features activities including a day of activities at Azur Marina Pavilion in Hastings, music and tea at St Saviours Church Hall in Eastbourne, a trip to Battle and an information afternoon at Trinity St John sub Castro in Lewes.
Virtual events include an online quiz, a social media tutorial, a virtual paper craft morning and events to help carers take a break and connect with others.
The programme is supported by East Sussex County Council, East Sussex Seniors’ Association and the NHS, in partnership with leisure centres, local councils, charities, community and voluntary organisations.
Cllr Carl Maynard, the county council’s lead member for adult social care and health, said: “Older People’s Day is about celebrating the important role older people play in our communities and we are pleased to be supporting the event for the 14th year.
“I hope this year’s varied programme of events and activities will help to promote an active and healthy lifestyle among our residents.”
