THE work of a scheme which brings businesses and education closer together has been highlighted at an event in East Sussex.

Representatives from schools and colleges across the county joined members of the Enterprise Adviser Network to share ideas and experiences.

The network, launched a year ago by Skills East Sussex – the county’s strategic body for employment and skills which is business led and co-ordinated by East Sussex County Council – sees volunteers from the local business community matched with schools in their areas.

Enterprise Advisers strengthen links between schools, colleges and business, and work with them to develop the careers education offered to young people.

The event, held at the Wellshurst Golf and Country Club, near Hailsham, also saw Wealden MP and Enterprise Adviser Network chairman Nus Ghani present certificates to new Enterprise Advisers acknowledging the commitment they have made to supporting schools and colleges in the county.

Cllr Nick Bennett, East Sussex County Council lead member for education and inclusion said: “In the year it’s been running, the Enterprise Adviser scheme has been very successful in bringing together schools and the business community.

“By providing a valuable business perspective to careers education and opening up ways for students to gain a greater insight into the world of work, we give children the best possible chance of future success.

“This event was aimed at bringing together Enterprise Advisers and schools from across East Sussex to share learning about how they are helping to boost the career prospects of our young people.”

The Enterprise Advisers scheme is funded by the Careers and Enterprise Company, Skills East Sussex and East Sussex County Council.
