Council tax increase to protect vital services approved

Cllr Keith GlazierCOUNCILLORS in East Sussex have voted to raise council tax by 3.99 per cent – to mitigate the impact on vulnerable residents of continued cuts to its funding.

The increase, equivalent to 92p a week extra for a Band D property, includes a two per cent levy, the maximum authorised by the Government, to offset some of the savings the authority must make from adult social care services. Continue reading

Work to start on £2million Hailsham improvement scheme

Hailsham webCONSTRUCTION work on a £2.6million scheme aimed at easing traffic congestion and ensuring Hailsham remains a vibrant and thriving market town is set to begin on July 1.

The scheme, which is being delivered by East Sussex County Council in partnership with Wealden District Council, Hailsham Town Council and Hellingly Parish Council, is funded jointly by developer contributions and East Sussex County Council. Council welcomes review panel’s findings over aircraft noise

gatwick webCOUNCIL bosses have welcomed a report which could help alleviate the issue of aircraft noise above East Sussex.

An independent review panel, commissioned by Gatwick Airport Ltd in response to concerns raised by residents and local authorities, has made 23 recommendations to the aviation industry – 20 of which could be implemented within just 12 months. Continue reading

Full steam ahead for Uckfield High Street scheme
