Exhibition on street light changes in St Leonards

LED Street LightingSTREET light changes in an area of St Leonards will be showcased at a public exhibition.

The event will offer people in Gensing ward the chance to learn more about the switch from orange and yellow lights to modern, energy-efficient white LED lanterns.

It will be held at The Y Sports Centre, in St Paul’s Road, on Saturday, May 31 2014, from 9am to noon.

People will have the chance to put their questions and comments to members of East Sussex County Council’s street lighting team, while maps showing the changes in Gensing will be on display.

The council is replacing around 5,500 old orange and yellow street lights in Hastings and St Leonards as part of a drive to reduce its energy budget for the whole of East Sussex by £885,000 over the next three years and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by around 2,800 tonnes.

The council has already saved around £340,000 a year and reduced its CO2 consumption by 2,000 tonnes from switching to LED lights in Eastbourne and introducing part night lighting in other parts of the county.
