A REVAMP which saw two councils working together to improve Bexhill and boost the town’s economy has been officially opened.

Rother District Council has completed its refurbishment of Marina Court Gardens, while East Sussex County Council has finished its pedestrian improvement scheme in Marina.

The district council scheme includes a new paved pedestrian route between Marina and Marina Court Avenue, attractive landscaping and new seating, signage and cycle stands.

Meanwhile, the county council project saw footways widened, bus stop facilities revamped and the zebra crossing in Marina improved.

An event to mark the opening, held on Monday, July 6 2015, featured the unveiling of a new coin collector for the Rotary Club of Bexhill in a more prominent position.

The opening was attended by members and officers from both councils and representatives of the Bexhill Town Team, Town Centre Steering Group, Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club.

Cllr Carl Maynard, leader of Rother District Council and lead member for transport and environment at East Sussex County Council, said: “These schemes are a great example of the two councils working together to make a real difference.

“The garden scheme and the county council pedestrian improvements have helped to make Bexhill a more attractive place and to encourage people to walk between the town centre and the seafront.

“The improvements build on the refurbishment of the seafront previously carried out by the district council and provide a timely boost to the town, with the summer holidays just around the corner.

“Crucially, these two schemes together will have significant benefits to the economy of Bexhill and increase the prosperity of the town and the wider area.

The county council scheme will see the introduction of a 20mph speed limit, while a further phase of the work will see improvements to Sackville Road roundabout, work on which is due to begin next year.
