A MAJOR resurfacing scheme in Hastings is nearing completion, with work beginning at two other locations in the town.

East Sussex County Council is putting the finishing touches to a month-long project to reconstruct Sedlescombe Road South, using an innovative process where the existing road surface is churned up and recycled, with work due to be completed on Friday, July 10 2015.

The council’s highways teams has now begun work on a 28-day resurfacing scheme in Braybrooke Road, Cambridge Gardens, Cornwallis Terrace and Station Junction.

The work began on Sunday, July 5, with work carried out between 7am and 5pm. The roads will be closed in three phases as the work is carried out, with Cornwallis Terrace closed throughout.

The first phase will see work carried out from South Terrace to Holmesdale Gardens, the second will affect a two-way section of Cornwallis Terrace and the final phase will run from Cornwallis Terrace to Station Approach, including the four-way crossroads.

Work will also be carried out over two nights at the entrance to Hastings Railway Station.
Meanwhile, a separate scheme will see a section of Sedlescombe Road North closed for carriageway patching between Briers Avenue and Burry Road.

The work is scheduled for Sunday, July 12, and is due to last one day only. A diversion route will be in place via Old Harrow Road and Battle Road.

Cllr Carl Maynard, East Sussex County Council lead member for transport and environment, said: “I’d like to thank residents for their patience while we carry out these schemes, which will provide a smoother, safer roads surface for years to come.

“These works are among the more than 200 schemes we’re carrying out as part of a £20 million investment in improving East Sussex roads during this financial year.”
