PART of a road in Eastbourne town centre is being closed to allow resurfacing work to be carried out.
Ashford Road will close between the junctions of Cavendish Place and Susans Road to allow a full resurfacing of the carriageway to take place.
The road will be closed from Saturday, April 8 to Wednesday, April 12 2017, with work carried out during the school holidays to minimise disruption. A signed diversion route will be in place.
The road closure will run alongside the closure of one lane of Ashford Road between Terminus Road and the railway station, where redevelopment work on the Arndale Centre is being carried out.
An East Sussex Highways spokesman said: “This work will allow us to fully resurface what is a very busy town centre road.
“The refurbishment of the Arndale Centre is scheduled to take two years and we didn’t want to postpone our resurfacing beyond that date, so the road closure will run alongside that scheme.
“We’d ask motorists, traders and residents to bear with us while we complete this work, which will create a smoother, safer road surface for years to come.”
A signed diversion route will be in place via Cavendish Place, Station Parade, The Avenue, Upper Avenue and Cavendish Place. Access in and out of the Arndale Centre car park will be unaffected.
