MOTORISTS are being warned there could be delays as work is carried out on a dual carriageway in Eastbourne.
The northbound carriageway of the A22 Golden Jubilee Way has been closed between its junctions with Dittons Road and Willingdon Drove, while East Sussex County Council carries out essential resurfacing work.
The work is scheduled to last for up to six weeks, however one lane of the northbound carriageway will reopen over the May Bank Holiday weekend, from 6am on Saturday, May 3 2014 to 6am on Tuesday, May 6 2014.
Roger Williams, East Sussex County Council head of highways, said: “We have had to close two lanes of Golden Jubilee Way to ensure the safety of our workforce on this high-speed road while we carry out resurfacing work.
“Closing the road also allows us to complete the work quicker and minimise the disruption for road users. We have made very good progress already and are ahead of schedule at this stage.
“Signs have been in place giving motorists the chance to find alternative routes and while we appreciate the work will cause disruption, we’d ask people to bear with us as the result will be a smoother, safer road.”
Once work on the northbound carriageway is complete, the southbound carriageway will close for resurfacing.
This is currently expected to happen by Monday, May 12 2014. The work is being carried out now, to be complete before the start of the busy summer period.
