100 years on – fight for equality continues

Today (Thursday, March 8 2018) is International Women’s Day, which this year coincides with the centenary of the Representation of the People Act passing into law.

While it granted the vote only to property-owning women over 30, the Act was a major milestone on the road to universal suffrage for women and the product of the extraordinary efforts of ordinary people over many years. Continue reading

LEADERS of all district and borough councils in East Sussex have thrown their weight behind a campaign calling for fairer funding for the county.

The Stand Up For East Sussex campaign is urging people to sign a petition calling on the Prime Minister to urgently rethink the funding the county receives. Continue reading

Tales from battlefield as WW1 website reaches three years

Three years ago on Friday (Aug 4), East Sussex County Council’s First World War website was launched to showcase the lesser known stories of the people and places of the county during the war. Continue reading
