Cllr Keith GlazierToday we made some decisions on the Adult Social Care savings proposals at the Cabinet meeting of East Sussex County Council. I want to stress that these have not been easy decisions.

There is a national crisis in social care funding, and when the Council agreed its budget for this financial year (2018/19) at its meeting on February 6 this included a reduction for Adult Social Care and Health of nearly £10 million. We are lobbying hard to get this problem addressed by Government, alongside other councils and all our partners involved in social care. Continue reading →

East Sussex reshapes services as national social care crisis sharpens funding pressures

PLANS to remodel front-line services to deal with a national crisis in social care and other intense financial pressures will be presented to council leaders next week.

The proposals are part of a package of measures East Sussex County Council’s Cabinet will be asked to approve to help the authority achieve agreed savings of £17 million in 2018/19. Continue reading →

100 years on – fight for equality continues

Today (Thursday, March 8 2018) is International Women’s Day, which this year coincides with the centenary of the Representation of the People Act passing into law.

While it granted the vote only to property-owning women over 30, the Act was a major milestone on the road to universal suffrage for women and the product of the extraordinary efforts of ordinary people over many years. Continue reading →
