Devolution and mayoral election plans move forward

LEADERS have welcomed approval of their plans to collaborate in a single strategic authority for Sussex with a directly elected mayor.

The government has agreed to move forward with a Mayoral Combined County Authority (MCCA) and confirmed the first mayoral election will take place in May 2026.

Company director handed suspended prison sentence

Ian Simpson, 57, of London Road, Hailsham, was given a 20 month custodial sentence, suspended for two years, when he appeared at Lewes Crown Court on Wednesday, December 21. Continue reading →

Rogue builder behind bars for roofing con

William Jones TS (web)A ROGUE builder who tricked elderly residents into paying large sums of money for unnecessary work has been jailed for 16 months.

William Jones (pictured), of Butts Field, Hailsham, conned three victims into paying a total of £25,850 for work to their roofs between March and May 2016. Continue reading →
