An open letter from Cllr Keith Glazier, Leader of the Council

Cllr Keith GlazierToday we made some decisions on the Adult Social Care savings proposals at the Cabinet meeting of East Sussex County Council. I want to stress that these have not been easy decisions.

There is a national crisis in social care funding, and when the Council agreed its budget for this financial year (2018/19) at its meeting on February 6 this included a reduction for Adult Social Care and Health of nearly £10 million. We are lobbying hard to get this problem addressed by Government, alongside other councils and all our partners involved in social care. Continue reading

Working together to tackle those who target the vulnerable

Cllr Bill BentleyORGANISED crime, modern slavery, scams and fraud were on the agenda as partners from across East Sussex came together for a conference on community safety.

The Safer People Safer Places event was a chance for members of the multi-agency East Sussex Safer Communities Partnership to come together and discuss their strategy for protecting the vulnerable. Continue reading

Green light for community libraries plans

PLANS to reopen five recently closed libraries as community-run facilities have been given the go-ahead.

Libraries at Ore, Pevensey Bay, Polegate and Willingdon will open as community libraries following a decision today (Thursday, June 21 2018) by Cllr David Elkin, East Sussex County Council lead member for resources. Continue reading
