Funding boost for new supported apprenticeship scheme
THE COUNCIL has agreed funding of up to £615,000 to deliver a Supported Apprenticeship programme to create opportunities for some of the county’s most vulnerable residents.
People living in East Sussex in supported and temporary accommodation, and those at risk of homelessness in the county, will be given support to access apprenticeship placements and vocational training and earn sufficient income to help them live independently.
Man jailed for record-breaking illegal tobacco find
THE DISCOVERY of the largest ever haul of illegal tobacco in East Sussex has landed a 36-year-old St Leonards man in jail.
Dany Dilan of Silchester Road was handed a three-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to five counts relating to trade marks, tobacco packaging and money laundering offences. Continue reading
Children invited to become wild world reading heroes
Youngsters across the county are being encouraged to stand up for the planet as an annual reading challenge gets underway next month.
East Sussex libraries are calling on children aged four to 12 to read six books over the summer months as part of The Reading Agency’s Wild World Heroes, Summer Reading Challenge 2021.
Safety works planned for old landfill site
A WEEK of safety work along Cross Levels Way in Eastbourne is due to start on Monday, June 28.
The scheme is taking place to improve safety at the old permitted landfill site through which the road was built, and includes installing vents and chambers to allow low level residual gas to escape.
