Annual report highlights successes and challenges

Remembering a WW1 hero from East Sussex

A ceremony was held in Seaford to unveil a memorial paving stone and plaque to town First World War hero Cuthbert Bromley, attended by dignitaries and members of Bromley’s familyA WAR hero from Seaford who served in one of the most infamous campaigns of the First World War has been commemorated in his home town.

Cuthbert Bromley, who was awarded the Victoria Cross for his bravery at Gallipoli, died aged 36 in August 1915 after the ship he was travelling in was sunk by a German torpedo. Continue reading →

School records from era when teachers ‘made their mark’

School records deposited at The Keep trace the history of Burwash Charity School from 1727 to 1877HISTORIC school documents dating from a time when even the teachers couldn’t read and write have been deposited at a county archive centre.

The parchment books, now held at The Keep, in Moulsecoomb, are thought to be the earliest school records in Sussex. Continue reading →

New service for library users in Pevensey Bay

East Sussex businesses sign up to social care trader scheme

SWC EastbourneMORE local businesses have joined an approved trader scheme for providers of social care services.

The businesses have signed up with East Sussex County Council’s  Support With Confidence scheme – a database of providers of personal care, who have been vetted on grounds of quality, safety, and training. Continue reading →
