Preferred school place for most East Sussex children

THOUSANDS of students will discover they have a place at one of their preferred secondary schools, as school admissions for September 2022 are announced today.

Of the 5,634 applications received by East Sussex County Council, almost 96 per cent of children have been given a place at one of their three preferred secondary schools, with 87.6 per cent securing their first preference. Continue reading

Economy-boosting access road opens to traffic

A NEW road which will improve transport links and boost Newhaven’s economy has officially opened to traffic.

The Newhaven Port Access Road is an integral part of the Newhaven Enterprise Zone, creating direct access to East Quay and allocated development land, opening up 80,000 sq m of business space and allowing the creation of new jobs. Continue reading

ESCC response to Storm Eunice

Given the weather warning in place and with the safety of staff and residents in mind, we took the decision this morning not to open our libraries and Household Waste Recycling Sites.

Our highways team was well prepared for the extreme weather and have double the number of crews working today and over the weekend.  Up until 4pm we had dealt with 169 calls reporting many incidents including 97 fallen trees, obstructions on carriageways, traffic lights not working due to power cuts and a fuel spillage.
