Record road improvement programme planned

A RECORD number of East Sussex roads will be given a new lease of life with this year’s programme of pothole-preventing work.

New parking area thanks to match funding scheme

Parking on the grass verge by people visiting the crematorium and Langney Cemetery has been a long-standing problem, damaging the grass and leaving the area looking unsightly. Continue reading →

Lost views of Victorian Brighton found at The Keep

Lost views  (resized)RARE images of a city during its development have been loaned to the archive centre for East Sussex and Brighton and Hove.

More than 200 photographs taken between 1860 and 1880 were found in a scrapbook and show Brighton and Hove at unique stages of development, with buildings and public spaces which have since been lost. Continue reading →

Common dog walkers urged: keep pets under control

Soay sheep at Chailey CommonA RENEWED warning has been made to dog walkers using an East Sussex beauty spot as wildlife which graze there are moved to new ground.

Beginning next week (week commencing Monday, October 19 2015), livestock at Chailey Common will be moved as part of the grazing programme aimed at preserving the historic landscape. Continue reading →

Children to return to fire damaged school

Cllr Nick BennettCHILDREN at a school ravaged by fire will be able to return to the classroom this week after temporary arrangements were put in place.

Around half of the teaching areas at Shinewater Primary School, in Langney, Eastbourne, were damaged in a suspected arson attack in the early hours of Monday. Continue reading →
